February 2017

February 3rd, 2017 at 01:11 pm

My goals are:
Lose 6 pounds this month.
15 no spend days.

I received two free loaves of Pepperidge Farm bread from a friend.

I heard that there will be an Aldi store coming soon near my neighborhood. Yay!

There are two birthdays in my family later this month: my mother and DS1. We normally go out to eat so I will need to be careful of my intake on those days.

I will contact my CPA for an appointment to get our income taxes done this month. I would normally do this myself but when it comes to a small business, I don't want to take any chances and make any mistakes. It is very much worth it to me to have a professional handle it.

Lame Supper

October 19th, 2016 at 05:15 pm

Health:
Breakfast - The usual (overnight oats, good belly, orange juice, coffee)
Lunch - can of fruit cocktail, chicken salad sandwich
Dinner - Tater tots.

My mom fed DS3 leftovers from their last night supper after school. DS2 ate a large and late lunch at school. DS3 was still at school come supper time (but he packed a substantial lunch including snacks). DH and I were not particularly hungry. So as a totally dysfunctional and lame attempt at a masquerade of a supper, DH put some tater tots in the oven.

What can I say? Some days are like that.

In other financial news:
We received our checks from our clients from last month.

DS2 received a refund check from the college for a course that he dropped.

Yesterday was a no spend day.

Surprise Gifts

October 18th, 2016 at 12:47 pm

Health:
Breakfast - Overnight oats, coffee, good belly, orange juice
Lunch - chicken sandwich and diet Snapple (I bought a case at the thrift store for $1.00 ... yes... 24 bottles for a buck)
Dinner - beef stew, beans, and rice

No spend day yesterday.

Anyone heard of "Birchbox"? My co-worker subscribes to receive beauty samples for $10.00 a month. She gave me samples that she says she knows she wont use and gave them to me in one of their cute boxes.

In the box:
Amika Dry Shampoo and Conditioner
Lip Laquer lip gloss
Brazilian Bum Bum Cream (LOL!)
Purifying 2 in 1 Charcoal Mask
Dr. Brandt Pore Dermabrasion Exfoliator
Dermae Sunscreen SPF 50
Marcelle Liquid Makeup Remover
Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask (for hair)

I may give this box away as a gift to my uncle's neighbor who has been so helpful caring for him. I'm keeping the lip gloss though.

My aunt also gave me a lip gloss last night and it gives a gold tone to my lips (elegant).

No Spend Day

October 14th, 2016 at 12:44 pm

Health:
Breakfast - Overnight oats, coffee, Good Belly and orange juice
Lunch - Assistant manager did a cook out so I had boston butt roast, baked beans, potato salad and coconut cake and Coca-Cola. (Healthy? not!)
Dinner - 1 plain hot dog without the bun
Extra food - Chocolate candy and wine.
Fitness - went to the gym/personal trainer

Yes, yesterday was a major eating disaster. It will be better today.

Other than that, yesterday was a no spend day.

Today, I need to buy gas which will set me back between $35-$40)

Tomorrow, I will take my mom and my aunt shopping and I will need to pick up a replacement cell phone for my uncle since his died a couple of days ago, and I want to buy a basic one for my aunt. My uncle will reimburse me but the one for my aunt will be a gift.

That's pretty much it for now.

Things to do today:
Side biz - two inspections this morning.

Make reservations for the Amtrak and the hotel for Miami. My dad does not like to plan things too far in advance. He finally gave the ok to do it last night. We leave on next Friday and return Monday.

My mom wants to go shopping for a new blouse. I'm in the market for a new blouse and shoes. We'll go shopping this afternoon.

Some laundry and prepare dinner.

Healthier Eating

September 8th, 2016 at 01:42 pm

Health:
Breakfast: overnight oats with coffee and Good Belly
Lunch: ham and cheese sandwich
Dinner: Leftover BBQ hot dog with bun
Snack: Green tea
Extra Food: low calorie protein drink and vanilla ice cream

No spend day yesterday. Today will be a spend day because I need to gas up my car. Today is also payday and I am low because I took an FMLA day last pay period.

I’m trying to stay low on my calories. I know for a fact that if I stay in the 1,200-1,300 daily calorie range I will lose weight. On my workout days, I’ll increase to 1,300.

The adjustments to my eating plan are rather small. For now, I’m not consuming my mid-morning snack (aka 2nd breakfast), a glass of wine each night, and sweets (I caved and had ice cream). I’ve substituted green tea and protein drink. I’m also have taken up food tracking, measuring portions and clean(er) eating.

Day 5 How I Use Capital One 360

August 28th, 2016 at 03:29 am

I briefly mentioned in a previous post that I have savings in Capital One 360 for the days I am out on FMLA (family medical leave act) to take my dad to the doctors. I recently began this fund to supplement the wages lost on the days I am away from work. FMLA is supposed to protect you from job loss due to being away from work for many absences due to medical situation or caregiver duties.

Anyway, opened my first account when they were ING Direct and they had an amazing interest rate. The interest rate is now abysmal but I use it like an envelope system for expenditures that are not in the normal budget. Like an escrow account like CCF uses.

Here are my escrow savings accounts with Capital One 360 (deposits every other week on paydays):
Healthcare FMLA days, 20.00 (I just opened this)
Christmas Club, 10.00 (I hope to supplement with gift cards I earn from apps. I may try surveys if I have the time)
DS3’s school expenses, 5.00 (He is a junior in high school. Saving for his senior year and all that entails).
Clothes Makeup and Hair, 5.00 (this is for me)
Travel 2.00 (low priority but I may have enough for travel in September)
Lunch Going Out, 2.00 (setting aside funds to have lunch somewhere)
Sharebuilder 1.00 (investment accounts, IRA and Roth)
CCW Dues n Cards, 1.00 (I’m in a ‘Church Lady’ group. This is already fully funded for 2017)
Gym annual fee 39.99 x4, 7.00 (Even though I knew about it, it still took me by surprise last year. I’m prepared now).
I don’t know why I haven’t opened one for auto insurance. I will need to do that soon. We taught DS1 well because he escrows his auto insurance. Proud of him!

Yesterday:
DH working overtime.
Spent 3.75 on a box of ice cream sandwiches.
Counted the change in my change jar = 6.07
Breakfast: 2 slices of French toast, 1/2 banana, coffee
Lunch: half a sausage and some cheese
Dinner: Turkey/Veggie Casserole (My first attempt. Needs some improvement), red wine.
Snack: 2 oz. of hard cheese
Extra food: Ice cream sandwich (dessert)

I think I will start a NSD ticker for the month of September and display on the sidebar. My goal is to have 15 NSDs in September (half the month).
